Why does some government officials in the Philippines as the reports said were incensed against the statement of the US Ambassador Harry Thomas that 40 % of Male tourists who visits the Philippines are just after for sex if it is indeed an actual reality. You can see foreign male tourists flocking on the night clubs where female prostitutes and even male prostitutes are on the key cities of the Philippines where sex trading is rampant even up until today despite the current government of the Philippines desire to erase the former reputation of the Philippines as a major destination of sex tourists and create an ironic Tourism logo like “Pilipinas kay ganda”. Perhaps, these government officials should accept the reality and just don’t be so hypocrite and defensive about it since it is indeed true and real.
For the world already knew that the Philippines have become military base camp then when it was still a colony of the United States wherein American soldiers subscribe to the sex service of a Filipina then in exchange for money to augment the financial destituteness of many Filipinas; and sometimes these Filipina prostitutes ends up marrying their respective foreign customer. This old trend is still existing today, make no mistake; it is still a current reality in the Philippines.
The statement of U.S. Ambassador Harry Thomas, though he already ask apology that he might incurred hurt on his statement that 40% of male tourists in the Philippines are sex tourists without showing hard evidence, still stands very true against the hypocritical statement of the Philippine government officials that it might tarnish the tourism image of the Philippines in the world.
Why be indignant and fearful if the world already knew the history of the Philippines regarding sex tourism? Though it is true It will not tarnish actually the Philippine tourism because prostitution is almost everywhere or part of every country in the world and there is nothing wrong about sex service since we all need sex in our lives. It is understandable; what pride does the Philippines try to protect implied by the angered government officials?
If they just legalized prostitution as a legal sex job, for sure the tourism revenue of the Philippines will grow aside from revenues gained from beaches and natural wonders foreign tourist visits in the Philippines. Perhaps, it is only those dirty religious minds have a bad understanding about sex and the sex trade; since religion is a very hypocritical aspect of human imperfect lives.
