From June 13 To June 19
Philippine news and happenings which top or headed the Filipino public awareness from week June 13 up to June 19 and that fills up the news on Philippine Television and Philippine newspaper, in accordance to my own observation. Here are they:
1. Spratlys Again. “Who owns the Spratlys fights”, divides the islands to an endless struggle for sovereignty. It will not resolve the issue if every concerned countries have this on their mind for it is evident geographically that concerned countries have divided share and no one owns the whole South China Sea and the islands therein.
It would better that the concerned countries share peacefully than egoistically fight who owns the Spratlys which leads to nowhere but only endless disputes and worst will lead into war only because of a tiny islands like little children fighting for a one little candy. It is a childish way.
Former Philippine president Ms. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is somewhat right on her peace pact like plan which gave the concerned countries an equal share of the islands to avoid war than PNoy’s egoistical approach to it that will only leads eventually to war. But for sure PNoy’s own incompetency to resolve the issue will blame it again to Gloria, as usual just to hide his own incompetency which he have already really done, as the recent reports said.
If you examined the issue, will the concerned countries, especially China concede that Spratlys is indeed Philippines’ territorial possession when China has its own, according to them solid evidence to claim Spratlys and throw out of whack Philippines grounded claim on the islands?
And what this meddling issues of America and other countries out there backing up the Philippines on its claim of sovereignty over the Spratlys. Are these meddling countries truly backing up the Philippines or are they just using the Philippines as a stepping stone to fulfill their political agenda against China? This siding act is quite dangerous because it spew disgusting signs of future world war. And if America is for World Peace why it is siding the Philippines which only creates conflicts rather than being magnanimous and neutral in the issue that will create peace between China and Philippines.
2. Food Poisoning Incidents. A subsequent event of food poisoning incident, namely first from Calumpit Bulacan which brought more than 200 people(children and adults) to hospitals because of aching stomach and sluggishness after eating “spaghetti” from a birthday party; and followed by another report of similar incident from Tuguegarao Cagayan which brought 46 people to hospitals and have killed two children after eating the food in the school canteen which believe to have oxalic acid but recently it was tentatively reported that it is not oxalic acid but sodium nitrate or “salitre” which the teacher who cook the food mistaken the sodium nitrate as salt.
These two incidents of food poisoning bring back into public awareness that food doesn’t only make your physical body alive but it could also kill it, if improper handling of food is not done and observed.
There are already number of case of food poisoning in the Philippines and most especially happens on schools, but still lessons have not yet learned, thus history repeats itself.
3.The Peril of Online Social Networking. The case of actor-director Ricky Rivero who almost die because of stab wounds brought to him by his new found facebook friend name Hans Ivan Ruiz as the news trying to say to the public, as well as the subsequent case of a young college girl who lost her insanity after being raped many times by her alleged meet up with her Tagged friends on social networking site – Tagged sparks new public fear that there is a great danger when one socialize online with someone whom one do not know personally when one attempt to meet up a new found one friend personally.
4. Jose Rizal’s Birthday. Annually immortalizing a so-called Filipino hero name Jose Rizal who spend his life indulging on personal gain of knowledge away from the Philippines amidst Spanish tyrannical occupation in the Philippines before he come back in the Philippines, and die because he was accused as “heretic(erehe)” against strictly imposed Christianity by the Spaniards in the Philippine then wherein Jose Rizal become a freemasonic on his beliefs which he used i guess to scrap away the Spanish-inspired Christianity and imposed his own religious beliefs which incensed the Spanish priests which prompts them to label Jose Rizal “heretic” and deliver to death sentence trough firing squad to protect and defend the Filipinos through his new found religion; is indeed absurd and unfair to other Filipinos who truly fought the Spanish occupation who do not leave the entire Philippines so that they could study first abroad of how to fight the Spaniard just like what Jose Rizal have done; or who never left their homelands amidst the ruling of the Spanish yet not known in history because they were not financially rich like Jose Rizal. It is sickening to call a National hero, a person who leave the country amidst the tyrannical rule of a conqueror and left his own people just to pursue his personal dream to study what he wanted study abroad. Is that a hero?
5. Miley Cyrus Concert. Another international young pop singer sensation invades the Philippine concert grounds and rock her Filipino fans with her smashing hit songs like, ”The Climb”, ”Take Me Along”, ”Simple Song”, ”Party in the USA”, and others. Yes, Miley Cyrus is in the house. Last June 17, she rock the concert ground of SM Mall of Asia with her concluded Philippine concert.
6. Typhoon “Egay”. It seems the Philippines is receiving a weekly dose of storms, for another storm for the week strike Pinas and hits our Top list – the typhoon “Egay”. However, it is not quite super typhoon anyway. But hold your seats again this week for another typhoon dosage – the forthcoming of typhoon “falcon”. For according to weather forecast, another typhoon will follow the typhoon “Egay” this week which gave early warnings and preparation for the forthcoming of this new storm.

Jinx or Jerk TV Host?
Mr. Willie Revillame’s TV hosting success seems to have a twin misfortune; for recently Willie Revillame is again on the other side of the pole when he was publicly criticized again on his hosting attitude now on his show on TV5 – Willing Willie for abusing a child contestant to dance in a striptease way by force in exchange for 10,000 pesos though the child contestant doesn’t want to and on a crying shame while the audience laugh at his striptease dance while crying which incensed many and condemn it as an act of child abuse.
This incident have provoke Philippine departments like the Department of Social Welfare and Department (DSWD) which saw the incident as a clear child abuse and violation of Republic Act 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act, while the Commission on Human Rights (CHR)saw it as a “criminal act”, the Partido Ng Mangagawa condemn Willie Revillame’s act as insensitive, disregard to child’s rights, abuse, and exploitation, and a Facebook account Anti-Willie Revillame considers him as the “National Jerk” and appeal to boycott him and his show on the Philippine Television; Wherein, the management of TV5 have as a public apology for the incident.
It seems Mr.Willie Revillame never learned his lessons from his defunct show Wowowee or he is just a jinx TV host that harbors such sorts of incidents or maybe he is really a jerk TV host that never analyzed first what his own tongue will utter?
Seems to be if Mr.Willie Revillame will not behave himself properly he will be the Philippines National Jerk TV Host in the Philippine television.
Tight Fight To Go On Top
The Amazing race on Philippine television have it again now what’s on the neck to neck competition is ABS-CBN‘s TV Patrol and TV5 Willing Willie. For the difference on the TV ratings of these two TV shows is just a decimal point away from one another. Thus, to keep the respective shows going into the peak of the pyramid, each respective shows added enhancement or gave touch of reformats and brand news to watch for.
On ABS-CBN’s TV Patrol, ABS-CBN channel 2 have to shelve out two famous news anchors Julius Babao and Ms. Karen Davila from the show and replace them with another two famous news anchor that ABS-CBN channel 2 believe could enhance or improve TV Patrol’s ratings against the new TV5 show Willing Willie that is eating the audience share of TV Patrol. The new news anchor ABS-CBN channel 2 have put into the show are the former news anchor of TV Patrol namely, former Philippine vice-president Noli de Castro and Ms. Korina Sanchez, with a leap of faith that these two former TV Patrol news anchors could bring back the former glory of the news show and able to climb high away from TV5’s Willing Willie in the TV ratings.

New TV Patrol
Meanwhile, on the camp of TV5,the management of the show Willing Willie have added former romantic mate of his Excellency PNoy, Shalani Soledad as the co-host of Mr. Willie Revillame, as Willie Revillame himself personally requested and choose to be his co-host on the show.
The inclusion of Shalani Soledad on the show is surely sparks additional public curiosity on the new show, which indeed could drives greater viewership that elevate the new show ahead on top of the TV rating race and which could topple down former champions of the Philippine TV ratings.
Whoever wins in this another amazing race in TV ratings on the Philippine television, let us just hope that the management of the two respective shows should not only concentrate on how they could entertain and inform More with beyond mediocre, their fellow Filipinos who gave trust on their shows which in return boost their TV ratings and earn them revenues.

Poll Survey for Willing Willie?
By the way, Mr. Willie Revillame of TV5 Willing Willie, Ms. Mel Chiangco and Ms. Pia Guanio of GMA 7 24 Oras were actually former talents of ABS-CBN channel 2 and owe their enjoyed popularity today because of ABS-CBN influence on their career; now it is ironic that these people compete with their mother (ABS-CBN) who nurture and gave them success.
Comedy Shows and Comedians In the Philippines
They say laughter is the best medicine because it relieves us from stress; stress that brings us down to our knees, for when one experience happy feelings, one’s energy is boosted and the body produce a feel good hormones which has some good effects on one’s body. Thus, laughing and being happy was coined to be a best medicine.
However, in the Philippine entertainment industry, comedy shows are slowing dying out of the primetime but was only resuscitated by other networks to give it a brand new style, but it seems it keeps on falling out of the ratings game. And because of this, comedians also lose their entertainment jobs. The question now is why does comedy shows in the Philippine television is trying to phase out itself from the limelight of Philippine TV?

Ms. Eugene Domingo
My wild guess is that, the comedy script on the comedy shows are already becoming obviously unrealistic or force and not natural punch lines that makes people laugh and they have very familiar, repetitive and predictable comedy scripts which the audiences already fed up with. Moreover, old comedians were also a minus factor because the audience already knew their comedy acts and styles which already make the comedy show already boring and dull.

Ms. Angelica Panganiban
Philippine TV audience need fresh comedy scripts that is never heard before and fresh comedy faces that fires unpredictable comedy lines which truly makes the audience laugh. This is indeed true when the new comedy actress Eugene Domingo becomes a hit comedian now from being unknown actress and sidekicks only of the veteran comedians. However, some Philippine TV networks and film outfits bombarded and spam the primetime TV and theatre with her face when they have discovered her viability to make people laugh; which makes her now have no difference with the veteran comedians; she become now too loud and excessively display of comedy acts and lines.
But she is continued to reign as one of the new breed of Philippine comedians in the Philippine entertainment industry, together with another new comedy young actress – Ms. Angelica Panganiban. Like Ms. Eugene Domingo, Ms. Angelica Panganiban also hits the audience with her really funny comedy acts and lines; she too has now comedy shows and comedy films like Ms. Eugene Domingo. Actually, both were paired on the recent comedy film “Here comes the bride” where they exchange and display their truly unique comedy style of acting and lines. The movie is really funny and hilarious to the max.

Here Comes The Bride Movie
Why Eat Bulaga Stand Still?
There are a lot of noontime shows on different Philippine TV channels that comes and go, but Eat Bulaga remains standing for already 3 decades now; wonder what its secret?

Eat Bulaga Cast
A noontime show actually can be varied, that is, it could be a game show, a talk show, a kiddie show, a sitcom or a comedy show, a drama series, or even a news or educational show. However, in the Philippines, a noontime show is stereotype as a show that show cases variety of games and fun that covers the noontime slot from 12 noon until 2 p.m.; six times a week. This is has been for past 30 decades now and continually ruling the Philippine Television noontime slot wherein the first noontime show is not Eat Bulaga, but the Student Canteen show which primary aim then of the show is to entertain students eating on the canteen while they are having their lunch break. The Student Canteen is aired then on CBS Network (now ABS –CBN channel 2) which only last a 3 decades due to the CBS Network then was one of the Philippine TV Network that forced to go off air because of Martial Law or was forced by the Marcos Administration to be closed, while the RBS (now GMA channel 7) was left unclosed because it is just a mere Philippine TV network that showcases almost foreign shows on its time slots, just like RPN 9 today.
After the closing of the Student Canteen show, another show was formed and was aired on RBS network; and after this show, Eat Bulaga was born but it was not aired first on GMA channel 7 rather it was first aired on RPN 9, then move to ABS-CBN channel 2 and then finally to GMA channel 7
Student Canteen Show
Eat Bulaga has been on 3 channels for many years and was never owned by any of the 3 channels it was aired (though ABS-CBN tries to buy it from TAPE –Television And Production Exponents, Inc, company but TAPE never sold it, thus they force to move Eat Bulaga to GMA Channel 7), rather it was owned by an independent company – the TAPE. And for this reason Eat Bulaga is just a mere concessionary show on the Philippine TV networks it was aired and not owned by the Philippine TV network itself, thus Eat Bulaga cannot be axed or off air by the Philippine TV network it was aired, despite if its TV ratings declines on the ground; the independent company who owns it will just move it into another Philippine TV channel for another brand new concessionary contract, if its ratings declines from the former TV network it was aired and if the former TV network it was aired and if the former TV network it was aired decided to end the contract of airing Eat Bulaga on their TV network.
So Eat Bulaga’s secret to 3 decades of success is not indeed a real secret anyway, rather it was just a pure business matters.
Top Phenomenal Franchise Reality Show That Hits
Reality Shows have also creep into the Philippine television wherein back then there was none, and if there is, it is not that such a big hit and it is an imported foreign show, like the Wheel of Fortune, If the Price is Right, etc, which is of course yes a Game show; a game show is categorized as a reality show then, but now on our modern times, the working definition of reality show is quite different. It refers now to the actual human activity or human reactions that are not scripted however caught secretly on cameras; or it an extreme game show that showcases real-life stunts, exhibitions, flops, and even angst and anger of the participants. The most recent reality show which showcase extreme games as I mentioned, is the Philippine Franchise foreign reality show “Survivor” which becomes a phenomenal hit on the Philippine television during its first season, likewise also the Philippine Franchise foreign reality show “Big Brother” when it airs its very first season in the Philippines.

Survivor Philippines
These top two phenomenal franchise reality shows that hits the Philippine television is given a Pinoy touch in order Filipinos could relate to the foreign show, with Filipinos are the main contestant of the show. Though the two top phenomenal franchise reality shows are already familiar in other countries, the Philippines top TV networks took a risk to adopt it on the Pinoy television. Of course, if these reality shows clicks abroad, it could also click on Filipinos, thus giving profits for the TV stations.

Pinoy Big Brother
Fantasy Series on Philippine Primetime Television
Before, a fantasy series is just a one episode on a particular child TV programs on either very early morning slot or early evening slot on Philippine TV programming which are only meant for a kiddie audience, but the success of “Marina” – the very first fantasy drama series put on a primetime slots which really gain a high ratings – have changed the landscape of Philippine primetime programming wherein every primetime slots of major TV networks in the Philippines (namely ABS-CBN channel 2,GMA Channel 7 ,and TV5 Channel 5) have one or more fantasy drama series in their respective primetime programming which boast not only the strong plot but also the special effects they use on every scenes.

Dyesebel
Both Filipino adult and children enjoy watching these fantasy dram series (the proof is the high ratings of this kind of TV programs) as an alternative to the surge of drama series which have only a repetitive story plots which flooded the primetime TV slots of Philippine TV before fantasy dram series emerged into the slots of primetime programming.
The rise of fantasy drama series in the Philippine television was heavily influenced by the fantasy and sci-fi (science fiction) movies being produced by Hollywood or foreign film outpits which do really hit the box-office and gain profits from producing them. This inspires the Filipino writers to do the same thing on their primetime TV slots to compensate for the growing needs of Filipino audience for an alternative TV viewing, than intoxicate Filipino audience with too much drama series and news programs. It is also a way to balance their TV programs.

Darna
Among the best fantasy drama series ever produced for Philippine TV aside from “Marina”, were “Mulawin”, ”Lobo”, ”Engkatadia” ,”Ang Panday”, ”Dyesebel”, ”Lastikman”, and “Darna”. However, there are a lot more fantasy drama series produced but they are more kiddie in style.
Pangako Sa’yo’s Success
Of all local produced Philippine TV drama series, only Pangako Sa’yo hits the high ratings on both local Philippine television and Philippine’s neighboring Asian countries on their respective local television. Recently, ABS-CBN Global reported that Pangako Sa’yo is second on the highest rating TV program on local China Television, translated on Mandarin language. This is the latest achievements of Pangako Sa’yo, for before it become a hit TV program in China, it hit the TV ratings first in Malaysia, wherein the Philippine actor Jericho Rosales – the local leading actor of Pangako Sa’yo- became an instant heartthrob in Malaysia among Malaysian women which compels him to go to Malaysia and performs a show together with his own boy band.

Jericho Rosales and Kristine Hermosa
The success of Pangako Sa’yo in Malaysia leads ABS-CBN Channel 2 and the Malaysian TV network to do a merged TV production that will be aired both in the Philippine Television and Malaysian Television, comprising two respective local stars. This planned TV production has already executed which produce the new TV drama series: Kahit Isang Saglit, which stars Jericho Rosales as the leading Pinoy star and Carmen Soo as the leading Malaysian Female star. Like Pangako Sa’yo, Kahit Isang Saglit has also become a hit on Pinoy Television.
Furthermore, Pangako Sa’yo not only makes the careers of Jericho Rosales and Kristine Hermosa but also gives the needed boost to the careers of Eula Valdes and Jean Garcia which gave them a renewed career in Philippine Showbiz which they currently enjoy now.
The Philippine TV Comic Millionaire
Who can imagine that a poor showbiz underdog personality that begins in the Philippine showbiz as a mere extra into a favorite naughty comic side-kick of most Philippine action stars in their respective movies surprises the entire Philippines showbiz land when he becomes an instant millionaire by just hosting a regular daily noontime show on ABS-CBN Channel 2 having a salary of more than 20 million pesos a month.

Wowowee
But this was just a rough assumption of his monthly income because the management of ABS-CBN Channel 2 never reveals the real deal of his monthly income. Actually, some guess that it could be 25 million pesos per month or even more than a whooping 40 million pesos a month because he files a 40 million pesos tax regularly on the Bureau of Internal Revenue or BIR.
It is really surprising that his talent fee have accelerated into so much height that even the president of the Philippines never have a salary like it, yet this comic Philippine star still express complains on his own noontime show or is he just so pressured and stress of his popularity and instant riches and wealth?

Willie Revillame
Of course, what I am talking about is Mr. Wowowee – Willie Revillame, who has a public life or an open life ever since he began joining showbiz. Every Filipino TV viewers have witness his ups and downs and now his condition from rags into riches. Some loves him but some hates him because of his naughty and straightforward mouth. His noontime show –Wowowee have beaten the No.1 ratings of its competitor noontime show – Eat Bulaga, one time.
The F4 Aftermath in the Philippine Television
After the successful broadcast of the Taiwanese version of the TV adaptation of the anime comic series “Hana Yori Dango (Manga)”,entitled “Meteor Garden” introduced and broadcast originally by ABS-CBN Channel 2 last 2003 on the Philippine television, it change the way how Pilipinos look and view imported Taiwanese, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean TV shows being shown prior to the success of “Meteor Garden” on Philippine Television because back then, they were neglected and have poor TV viewership and are shown not on the Two Philippine TV giant networks but only on Philippine channels that has poor commercial sponsorship like channel 9 and channel 13;Just like the Latin American shows “Marimar” which was originally started and come into popularity on Channel 9.

Meteor Garden
But luckily, Latin American shows becomes a hit then on Philippine television though they are shown on Channel 9 and channel 13 like the “Marimar”, which the two giant networks copied because of their success. Actually, GMA channel 7 have steal the rights of “Marimar” from channel 9 to do a Pilipino version of it that will replicate the profits which channel 9 have gained from it back then.
Now, because of the “Meteor Garden’s phenomenal success on the Philippine television almost all Philippine TV channels have two or more either Taiwanese or Korean TV shows on their primetime or late time TV programming slots, dubbed into Tagalog language. Moreover, most young Pilipino women today even flirt and going gaga to some Taiwanese and Korean heartthrobs.

Marimar
What an impact it has been to the Philippine Television and to Pilipino moral values wherein GMA Channel 7 become envious that it steal its right from ABS-CBN Channel 2 to re-broadcast it on their TV network, just like it steals the rights of “Marimar” from Channel 9.However, thank the good God because GMA channel 7 was never able to steal the rights to do a Pilipino version of it but only ABS-CBN Channel 2 who originally broadcast it on Philippine television, unlike the “Marimar”.
