Awarding Filipinos Abroad

Whenever Filipinos leave their homeland or the Philippines to find greener Pasteur abroad, they do not leave actually the Philippines rather they took the Philippines together with them in their journeys abroad by showing and displaying their “pagka-Pilipino” among the foreigners they mingled abroad. Some become successful, some don’t.

But to those who make it abroad and makes the Filipino races shine, the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) is quick to say “Thank You” to them by awarding them the BPInoy Awards which the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) have conceptualized to give credits to those Filipinos who brings great pride to the Philippine in their successful journey abroad; which the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) do it yearly.

Last year 2010,the Bank of the Philippine Island (BPI) have awarded two successful international Filipinos, namely,(1) Ms. Charice Pempengco for her very successful career as an international entertainer abroad, and (2) Dr. Manuel Cacdac, the founder and chair of Hydrocephalus Foundation of the Philippines, for giving free hydrocephalus surgical operation to many marginalized communities here and abroad.

“Through the BPInoy Awards, we are creating an avenue for Filipinos all over the world to connect, inspire and to celebrate distinct nationalistic pride in evrymen.BPI recognizes our deserving countrymen whose stories attest to the world that we, Filipinos, are globally competitive” –BPI VP Teresita Tan.

Charice on Glee Show

No Filipino singer has reached what this little girl has reached though she is small. Yap, though she is a small girl she was able to reach the pinnacle top which Filipino divas and singers are dreaming of yet couldn’t reach it though they are tall and famous singers in the Philippines. Obviously, we all know what boost this little girl quickly on the pinnacle top; it is Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres, and Celine Dion who are already on the pinnacle top lend a hand to pull her up on where they were (on the pinnacle top). Thus, her singing career skyrocketed quickly on where she is dreaming to head for, surpassing all well known Filipino singers in the Philippines who are having a hard time climbing the pyramid of success or onto the pinnacle top of the pyramid.

Yap, Charice’s “Pyramid” song have indeed put her on the pinnacle top of that pyramid and landed a part on the famous US TV show “Glee” for the show’s new season, as Sunshine Corazon.; A role that will be a “frenemies” with Rachel Berry, according to Charice. Rachel Berry which is played by the actress Lea Michele is one of the major character on the show “Glee”, thus her role sounds to be with utmost important on the show. Actually, one scene on the show was a spectacular competition of singing prowess between Sunshine Corazon (Charice Pempengco) and Rachel Berry (Lea Mitchele) singing Lady Gaga and Beyonce song “Telephone” in the washroom. The scene was really great and makes all Filipino proud of her.

I am looking forward to see her more as the “Glee” show progress.

By the way, in the Philippines, there are two copycat shows that mimic the show “Glee”, namely, the “idol” show of Ms. Sarah Geronimo and Ms. Regine Velasquez “Diva” show.

Ms. Regine velasquez’s “Diva” show which already ended, end with a not so bad ratings and music-storytelling, however, Ms. Sarah Geronimo’s “idol” show which is currently running on Philippine TV have really low ratings due to kind of not so good and kind of messy installment of music production numbers.

Ms. Regine Velasquez and Ms. Sarah Geronimo are the two top Filipina diva or famous Filipino singers in the Philippines but yet never reach what the little girl Charice Pempengco have reach though they are already a very visible and shining luminaries in the Philippine Entertainment industry.

Quick Ticket To Stardom

“I want to be a star, quick!”, Yes, Sure.

The emergence of internet, especially the video uploading site, particularly YouTube, as well as the reality shows have swamp the Entertainment industry with disposable instant superstars which only last for 1 year or months of stardom wherein every year there is a brand new star and celebrity produced by the reality shows replacing the glittering stardom of the former winners, however some former winners are able to survive the competition and tightly cleaved on their distinct star quality which can never be eclipsed by any new comer emerging from where one also come forth.

In the Philippines, there is a star that was produced by a reality show in the Philippines wherein his star quality remain shining despite of all his successors in the reality show he come forth, that is Mr. Sam Milby. Sam Milby is the top and now very famous star and celebrity that come out from a reality show – Pinoy Big Brother-, according to the survey done among who is the most reality show produced stars that is continually making success in the Philippine Entertainment industry.

In the other hand, in terms of internet stardom, the only Filipino that emerges as a bigger and even international star resulting from her YouTube videos is of course – Ms. Charice Pempengco. The video uploading site has given her almost fainting star status in the defunct local talent search in the Philippines, a bigger and wider boost.

To summarize, though there are many channels and free platforms today in order to be famous and fabulous, the only thing that remains a star shining is his or her own distinct talent, wherein the new channels and platforms have just given their respective talents to be noticed in a larger and real scale without a lot of scripting and tailoring done in a commercialized talent show.
