Empowering The Philippine Automotive Industry

Vehicle in our times is very important in order to take us to where we want to go fast and easy, thus having a personal vehicle like car is one of the material possessions most coveted by any one of us. However, to have one is very costly for every one vehicle sell on vehicle stores cost beyond what we could afford for by our little money, but to rich and wealthy people, it is nothing.

And because of the expensiveness of having a personal vehicle and not all Filipinos in the Philippines could afford to have one, the automotive industry in the Philippines is quiet not successful and striving. For only the rich ones could afford to buy one. Thus, because of this less consumer patronage specifically on cars, a brand new vehicle association was erected or formed to address some consumer issues, as well as the status of the automotive industry in the Philippines; of what the automotive industry could do regarding such issues. This brand new vehicle association in the Philippines was just recently debut on the Filipino public consciousness which compose of fiftheen(15) vehicle brands in the Philippines.

For the first time ever, fifteen (15) prestigious auto brands in the Philippines have merged into one auto or vehicle association that aims and foster the success of auto industry in the Philippines by giving auto or vehicle lovers the satisfaction they needed in an auto or vehicle, headed by a nine founding members, namely

(1) Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI)

(2)CATs Motors, Inc.

(3) The Covenant Car Company, Inc.

(4) PGA Cars, Inc

(5) Scandinavian Motors Corporation

(6) Jaguar Cars, Inc.

(7) Focus Ventures, Inc.

(8) United Asia Automotive Group,Inc

(9) British United Automobiles, Inc.

These nine founding members have outstanding track records in the Philippines’ automotive industry.

The fifteen auto brands are:

This newly formed or created vehicle association in the Philippines is the Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors or AVID. This vehicle association is a private non-stock and non-profit business association recently incorporated last July 2010 with four areas of engagement: (1) Strategic Policy Thinking (2) Communications and Advocacy (3) Knowledge Capital Building and (4) Partnership Strengthening.

Recently the AVID held the First Thought Leadership Forum that discusses consumers’ trends for more competitive automotive industry to address of course what I have discussed above.

Actually, last year 2010 is the year considered by the automotive industry in the Philippines to be the landmark year for automotive industry in the Philippines that have the highest rate of sales so far from the previous years with 168,490 units sold last year 2010.This is really good for automotive industry and good year for the industry which is also not only due to Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors or AVID thought leadership forum for the Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors or AVID is still but also for some other auto promotions brought by the auto brands i mention above this article.

The report above about the high sales in auto units sold last year 2010 was reported by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (Campi) and the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA), likewise also Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (Campi) and the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) expected a continual growth on sales this year 2011 as the automotive industry in the Philippines gots a high momentum last year 2010.

“2011 is likewise seen to be a positive year as overall economic environment continues to be relatively favorable with sustained business and consumer confidence, GDP (gross domestic product) growth, stable forex (foreign exchange), positive forecast for OFW (overseas Filipino workers) remittances, manageable inflation rate forecast, continued healthy financing environment, as well as new model introductions by auto players this year,” the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc (CAMPI), president Elizabeth Lee said.

The Philippines is the Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors or AVID is just an additional help to boost more the automotive industry in the Philippines to gain more sales in coming years as it already helps boost the sales in autos last year 2010, thus this year 2011 the automotive industry is expected to continue to increase in sales.

“We are likewise hopeful that this year will bring in new investments on the back of government’s direction to support the expansion of local assembly operations, create jobs, and create a competitive environment where the Philippines can participate in a larger scale, regionally. We have to take advantage of the opportunities that are present and use the plant capacities we have available to serve both the domestic and export markets. A strong, clear, and competitive road map is key,” the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc (CAMPI), President Elizabeth Lee said.

Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. is still on the top most bought auto brands in the Philippines with 33.7 of the total sales, selling  56,855 units last year 2010 followed by Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp  with 19.2 percent selling 32,422 units sold, then by Hyundai Asia Resources Inc with 11.1 percent selling 18,696 units last year 2010.
