Recent data from Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reveal that 3.27 million Filipinos were unemployed or have no work in December 2021 or last December last year 2021.
“The unemployment rate in the country slightly picked up in December 2021 at 6.6 percent, PSA head Dennis Mapa said in an online briefing. According to Mapa, the labor force participation rate (LFPR) rose to 65.1 percent in December, the highest in 2021.”(Xinhua Net)
Although, the labor force participation rate (LFPR) is high, according to PSA, not all in the labor force landed a job and that makes the unemployment rate increase a percentage or the unemployment rate high.
But Socioeconomic Planning secretary Karl Kendrick Chua said the government was able to generate jobs through the acceleration of the government vaccination program and the reopening of the economy yet however, he said the employment will come down again due to the reimposition of stricter quarantine rules.
